Checked 2026-10-20 · Rankings are independent of any affiliate relationship. Disclosure

Both are legal-specific AI that research, analyze documents and draft, with a citator built in so suggested authorities carry a good-law signal. Clio Work is #1 and CoCounsel Legal (with Westlaw) #2 in our AI legal research and citation-checking guide. The biggest practical differences are the contract terms, the research library, and whether you already live in Clio or Westlaw.

Short answer. For most small firms, trial Clio Work first: it works with or without Clio Manage, checks research through the Cert citator, and can be cancelled at the end of any monthly or annual term. Choose CoCounsel Legal if you already rely on Westlaw and KeyCite, or you want Quick Check to verify the citations and quotes in a finished brief, and price the renewal, not just year one.
